About Us

We’re Vince and Alex, and So Nobly Advanced is our effort to study – and honor – the human story of the American Civil War.

We are not historians by profession, but students of the past by conviction. What began as interest became disciplined attention: walking the ground, reading the records, tracing names through muster rolls, pension files, cemeteries, and archives. We have come to believe the war cannot be understood through summaries alone. It must be approached through lives, places, objects, memory, events, and the principles that shaped them.

At the center are individuals.

Behind every name in a regimental history was a life – formed by family, work, fear, loyalty, and hope. Farmers, clerks, immigrants, tradesmen. Sons, brothers, husbands, fathers. Some left letters; others left only a line in a roll of service. All stood within a conflict that tested the meaning of union, citizenship, and Liberty under law.

Inspired by Lincoln’s call that “it is for us the living… to be dedicated to the unfinished work,” we seek not only to understand what happened, but to consider what was advanced – and what remains entrusted to Us.

If you share an interest in the Civil War, genealogy, battlefield study, constitutional history, or the human experience behind defining national events, we are grateful you are here.

The work is unfinished.
The responsibility to understand and advance it remains.
